Southeast Region Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc. (SEREMS) was incorporated on May 5, 1977, to support the improvement, advancement, and growth of emergency medical services throughout the communities of Southeast Alaska.
For decades, SEREMS has worked in partnership with the State of Alaska and the Department of Health to help strengthen the regional EMS system. Although SEREMS is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we play an important role within Alaska’s Injury Prevention and EMS network by helping carry out regional priorities, support local services, and improve access to training, equipment, and emergency care resources.
SEREMS serves as a trusted support system for emergency medical services, fire departments, clinics, instructors, and providers across Southeast Alaska. We help coordinate training for both professional and volunteer responders, support the acquisition of medical supplies and training equipment, and provide administrative and technical assistance to local services. Our experience and regional knowledge allow us to help communities navigate the unique challenges of providing emergency care in rural and remote Alaska.
Emergency medical services in Southeast Alaska are carried out by a close-knit and deeply committed group of people. Their successes are shared across the region, and their challenges are felt by all. Over the years, SEREMS has been a source of logistical, administrative, educational, and moral support for both large and small services alike. Just as responders are there for their communities, SEREMS is here for them.
Southeast Region EMS Council is proud of the progress made over the years and remains committed to the work ahead. With continued collaboration and support from the State of Alaska, local agencies, healthcare partners, and the communities we serve, SEREMS will continue striving to strengthen emergency medical care throughout Southeast Alaska.
